How much do you think is a company creating chemicals for cleaning worth? In 2017 Solugen was estimated to be worth around 250 million dollars. However, they are not using fossil fuels as other companies that are creating industrial chemicals. They are replacing this process with their own process of creating industrial chemicals by an enzyme. This is much more ecological. The products are being used for cleaning places like spas or companies’ wastewater.
As we can see their products are used in a wide range of sectors. They are producing hydrogen peroxide by mixing enzymes with organic fluid. Why is this so interesting? Based on Forbes article: “The process of making one ton of Solugen’s wastewater treatment sequesters the equivalent of 1.35 tons of carbon dioxide, versus 3 tons emitted for HEDP, according to a report from Life Cycle Analysis.” HEDP also isn’t environmentally friendly, so it is a double win. Also, based on Techcrunch’s article, the hydrogen peroxide market is estimated to be worth around 6 billion dollars. This means there is a lot of room for the company to grow, however, they will have to be innovative, because there is also a lot of competition. But, the majority of the competition isn’t environmentally friendly, therefore Solugen has an advantage over the long-term run.
Solugen is currently using its technology in agriculture, energy, cleaning, and water industries. In the agricultural sector, their chelated micronutrients improve crop yields and its quality. Based on Solugen’s words micronutrients such as Iron, Zinc and Copper were being ignored until now. They are used for plant’s photosynthesis, growth, reproduction, and many other things. Also, the company’s chemicals make sure the water used in agriculture can be reused many times and the infrastructure for storing water is maintained.
When it comes to the energy sector, Solugen said that “Solugen offers economical, carbon-negative, and low environmental impact water treatment chemicals for oilfield applications to help service companies meet changing needs within the oilfield industry.” They make sure that fluid used for drilling, completions, and stimulation — 3 stages of pumping the natural gas — is environmentally acceptable. When water is injected into the ground for better oil recovery efficiency, it mustn’t introduce bacteria or sulfates into the ground. “Solugen provides chemical solutions to ensure water quality meets the minimum standard for injectivity” is stated by Solugen. They are also using their chemical solutions in midstream operations — part of the gas pumping process. Not only that, but they are also helping companies by advising them on methods and techniques in salt-water disposal.
Environmentally friendly products are being used in the household or industrial cleaning industry. Solugen has created a wide range of products that can be used in both sectors.
The most lucrative sector for the company is wastewater treatment — accounting for around 80% of its revenue. They offer 4 types of water treatments: cooling water, boiler water, wastewater, and membrane water treatment. When we are cooling or heating a building the infrastructure starts to corrode. Solugen products protect heating and cooling infrastructure. With wastewater and membrane treatment we clarify and purify the water, therefore minimize freshwater. The company states that “Solugen has a full line of products for wastewater treatment that are specifically designed for compatibility with common halogen and halogen-free oxidizers and biocides.” They have also added: “Solugen’s product portfolio for membrane water treatment has targeted pretreatment and post-treatment solutions for reverse osmosis, microfiltration, and ultrafiltration applications. “
We can see that by using different solutions, companies can become successful and still do good for the Earth. We love it!
